HIRE FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Finding quality people that can provide services has become very challenging Businesses across the country are struggling with staffing issues. Staffing shortage forces retail operations to decrease their hours of operation and the customer loses in the end.

The field of home health care is not immune to this struggle and in most cases to the detriment of the client. Our clients, in some cases, are in need of vital daily services. Their activities of daily living cannot not be performed without assistance. Both large and small agencies throughout the country are creating innovative methods in which to recruit, train, hire and retain quality people. Often times the client’s family are critical in providing necessary services until a proper staff person can be placed in the home.

A growing trend in long-term services for older adults, caregivers have the ability to hire family, friends, or neighbors to provide some of the services they might need, such as meal preparation or personal care.

Sometimes caregivers and other consumers are not happy with the quality of the services they receive. If there have been problems with workers not showing up on time, or not available when needed, or restrictions from an agency on what workers can do, a self-determination program might better meet your needs.

If you live in a rural area, home care agencies may have a particularly difficult time recruiting staff, since a provider might have to drive long distances to get to some homes.
